About Me: My name is Mike Pierce; this is my site & the associated video channels. I am not a chef, did not go to culinary school, & don’t plan to. While I may not want be a chef, I do want to be a really good & capable home cook. I started in northern Nevada (near Reno) & now live outside of Grants Pass, OR.
History of this endeavor: This all started a few years ago when I decided I wanted to finally learn to cook, so I bought a few cookbooks & started what I called, “New Recipe Sunday.” I was going to make something new every Sunday night… that failed pretty fast as I was traveling for work every other week & often got back home on Sunday afternoon/evening with an empty fridge & little interest in going shopping & whatnot. A while later, I remembered my dad telling me that the best way to learn something is to try to teach it.. & Read A Line Do A Line Cooking.com was (sort of) born. It was born in my head, but there was a long way to go to actually producing videos.
First, I had to upgrade my kitchen as it was a bit of a mess (replaced range, replaced dishwasher, & installed wine fridge). Next, I had to buy some decent equipment, so I bought new knives, cookware, gizmos & whatnot. Next, I bought a crazy number of cookbooks, how-to cookbooks, & cooking courses at thrift stores I came across in my work travels. Next, I bought 2 HD video cameras, 2 tripods, 2 sets of lighting, & a wireless mic. Next, I went through a bunch of video editing programs until I found one that would do what I needed (DaVinci Resolve), but also found that while my desktop would run the program, it wouldn’t run it well enough & my laptop wouldn’t run it at all. I upgraded the video card in my desktop & bought a new laptop to run the program. Next, I had to learn to edit video, which takes some time. By the spring of 2019, I was making test videos & getting close, but stopped everything to try to finish my house & sell it. I worked like mad, but it didn’t get listed (then the roof started leaking, then my buddy died, & then my pool turned into a disaster). Now, it’s the end of March 2020, (I have a new roof & the pool is still a disaster) & we’re all on lock down with Shelter At Home, so it seemed like a good time to finally get this going. I was close but needed a website, so signed up for web hosting, bought a URL, & built this little website. Next, I set up the channel on YouTube, created the intro/exit graphics for the videos & I was FINALLY ready to start…
I made about 30 or so videos near Reno with my absolutely beautiful kitchen, but then had to sell it, move to Oregon, & buy another house with a much less beautiful kitchen. 🙁 It took a while, but I’m finally making videos again. I hope to get the lighting replaced soon, but the countertops & sink will take a bit longer…
My Amway Business: Below is a link to my little Amway storefront where you can register for free as a customer & order whatever you wish without being bothered by anyone, including me. I automatically give everyone the maximum discounts that Amway allows, which make the pricing pretty close to wholesale.
I’m a big Amway fan as my folks sold it when I was a kid & I’ve used some of their products all my life. If you are unfamiliar with Amway, they make a bunch of products (450+) that mostly relate to laundry, cleaning, cosmetics, & vitamins. One of the things I like is that when I go grocery shopping, I can generally just buy food & have the rest delivered to me. They have a 100% money back guarantee, so you have nothing to lose. I’ll eventually post a video or two on my favorite products & why, but for now just know, I believe they make great products at fair prices & would LOVE to have you as a customer (especially since I am making absolutely nothing from the videos currently). Thank you…
